Sunday 16th June - 4 Ball Best
DOWN THE FAIRWAY - The Pasty Putter
Beautiful balmy winter conditions greeted the players who contested in a 4 ball best ball Stableford event. Winners on the day went to the well credentialed team of Joe Blatchford and Wally Broome with a score of 54 points with runners up accolades going to Greg & Luke Budden with 44 points.
The individual awards on offer were snapped up by Joe Blatchford for longest drive on hole three, longest drive hole sixteen to Eric Rognli, nearest to pin hole five to Kevin Bailie and nearest to pin hole eleven to Greg Budden. Hole number seven was drawn from the bucket for the birdies nest. No one managed a birdie here so the prize will jackpot next week.
Sunday 23th June -- Leon Mueller shield
DOWN THE FAIRWAY - The Pasty Putter
Coolish winter conditions greeted the players who contested in a 2 person stroke ambrose event playing for the Leon Mueller shield. Burglars (Winners) on the day went to the high handicapped team of Kevin Bailie and Joe Brooks with 86 of the stick for a net 54 defeating the honest team of Joe Blatchford and Wally Broome with 79 of the stick for a net 55.
The individual awards on offer were snapped up by Greg Budden for longest drive on hole three and nearest to pin on hole five to Kevin Bailie, no long drive or nearest to pin where won on the back nine. There where no individual birdies so the nest will prosper once again.
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June
Woomera Golf Club combines with nearby Roxby Downs to stage the annual SANDVIK DESERT CLASSIC, billed as the ultimate desert adventure. And that’s pretty true. The course is set in red sand among the saltbush, so most shots faced are fried eggs – balls buried in the sand. But that doesn’t deter anyone, and big fields of players head to Woomera each year from all directions.
